What if I get married and want to stay on the parents' health plan?

insurance types

You should consider many factors when deciding on whether you will stay with your parents' plan or purchase a separate health insurance policy. These factors include your budget and the level of coverage you need.

After 26, can i still be covered by my parents health insurance?

You can remain covered under your parent's health insurance up until age 26 if their plan is an individual or group policy which offers coverage for dependents. This is especially true for young people with relatively low-incomes, who may qualify for a Medicaid premium-free plan or a premium subvention through the exchange.

However, if your parents' employer offers a plan that is grandfathered and does not require you to be covered under the parent's coverage, you cannot remain on the policy after age 26. You should speak to your parents if they offer a plan which requires you to remain covered by their coverage.
